Ooops, we did it again...

The new pear OS screen shot

We changed the world and we're proud of it! The new content that we've made and some nice eye candy to go with it will be the most graphically advanced thing you've ever seen a cosmos OS do. We included a nice screenshot so you can bathe in the awesomeness!

So does it lag?

Not at all! I spent four days making Pear not lag. And it doesn't, this OS right now runs in real time. And you may want to try it and see for yourself, this version however only runs in VMWare due to some bugs, and you will have to install the Cosmos Kit in order to boot it in VMWare, the reason is unknown, we just know how to fix it. - Matt

What matters so much to us about this version, and why is it different?

This version is a product, of our new Graphics library and some of new API and controls. The reason why we like it so much is not because of how it looks, its because of how it works. Its fast. It does what is should, and is amazing. Thats why we like this version so much. - Matt

Newcomers

No Operating System experience is required to work on PearOs, just a little bit of C# knowledge will do. We comment all of our code, so you can ask any questions on the Discussions tab or just look at the code for reference or ideas

If you are new to this project there are a few things you need to be able to run the source code.

  • Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate
  • Cosmos's Current Source Code Installed, Refer to the link in: "How do I compile Pear OS".
  • Some C# knowledge.
  • TortoiseSVN (Used for source code and development) Read the tutorials first under Documentation
  • If you have issues read the news below, or under the "How do I compile Pear OS" under update.

If you run into any problems feel free to contact Civilwarrock, or another developer, or just ask a question in the Discussions Board.

What is Pear OS?

Pear OS is an Open source, C#-based operating system using the Cosmos kernel. Pear OS has been worked on quite a bit through out the years, but we needed a fresh code start. So we advanced to the current release of Cosmos and are starting over on Pear OS. If you would like to know how to use Cosmos better or just want to help out, you can! You may use the source code any way you want. But the way we do it is, if you commit some code, or a few other things, we mark you as a developer, anybody that's a developer or coordinator may use the source code anyway they want. We are a growing community that needs more followers and developers.

Credits

Thanks to Cosmos for their amazing Kernel and community. And everyone who helped me understand OS's and how to code them in Cosmos, and because of you I can do what I do today. Also thanks to all those who follow this project, who have downloaded it, and have been here since the start. And a special thanks to Superbyte (Jacksen) for teaching me how to make a OS in cosmos back in the days, without that help I would not be here right now.

The History behind PearOs

Pear OS was started in 2010 by Matt (civilwarrock), and all the others devs have coded every piece of Pear, except for the Kernel, hats off to Cosmos. Matt did code Pear alone from 2010-2011. Then Pear OS was called FutureAppleOsx, but thats Apple's name and I like Pear's better. But I decided to release the Source code and start a community to teach people about OS's and allow them to become involved in Pear. I did create a Window system: "Rosa Window System" which was for a project named Grapevine OS, unfortunately the code needed better support and more features in the Kernel before it could actually be used in other Operating Systems. I have Re-written it and the code is here, along with our teams API. So if you wondered how it worked, then this is the place for you. We do comment all our code so it is pretty self explanatory, but if you have any questions feel free to ask.

I spent hours rewriting the pear graphics code, and working with the VMWare driver, and rewriting the Cosmos mouse driver because of an issue, but it was all worth it because now we can add on and enjoy PearOs!
